I have lived in the south for the majority of my life, but much to my husband's chagrin, I have never attempted to make country fried steak. I found this recipe, and decided that I could do it. The cube steak was cut into bit sized pieces, and the gravy includes onion soup mix.

I couldn't believe how easy and cheap it was to make. I served it with potatoes and green beans. It smells great as you are cooking it, and the meat was so tasty and tender. It was a huge hit with the husband and eight year old son. I liked it too.  I will definitely be making this one again. I feel so very southern.

Ingredients:
2 Tbs vegetable oil
1 lb cube steak cut into bite size pieces
1/2 cup all purpose flour for coating the steak
1 Tbs all purpose flour
1 package dry onion soup mix
2 cups water
1 tsp minced garlic
salt and pepper to taste
Place the bit size pieces of cube steak into the flour to coat the meat. Shake to remove excess flour, and place the meat into the large skillet that has been heated on medium high heat. Brown the steak and then remove with a slotted spoon to set aside.

By the time my steak was brown, I had run out of "juice" in the pan so I added a little more vegetable oil. Add the tablespoon of flour and packet of onion soup mix to the pan and stir until they begin to turn brown. Slowly add the water to the mixture. Add the cube steak back into the pan. Add salt and pepper to taste. I also added a teaspoon of minced garlic. Stir, cover, and simmer for one hour.
